Nintendo will offer Japanese users the chance to transform the WiFi-enabled Nintendo DS into a portable media center of sorts. The company plans to sell a DS Opera web browser in June and will add an option for a digital TV card with antenna before year’s end. This would fit in with Japanese broadcasting plans to deliver mobile TV starting this spring. The browser could be offered overseas but no such plans for the digital TV receiver. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata (via Reuters): “These products propose a different use for the DS in entirely new fields.”
Nintendo has sold 14.4 million DS units worldwide, including 6 million in Japan. More from AP.
