Chris Melossinos, Chief gaming officer, Sun Microsystems, said mobile games today are a “product”. Mostly a solitary experience, hard to differentiate, more branded titles than original IP. Carriers promote the titles and games spread by word of mouth. Mobile games are also hindered by complex controls, lack of originality, and don’t take advantage of being on a handset. Instead games need to be built for the network, services not products, linked to other gaming systems.
