You will always have predators where ever you go on the net. If you can get them in a Church you can get them on MySpace, and in other social networks.

Not sure how much we can trust MySpace to police itself when at the same time, its executives are in a fiduciary relationship with the board of directors... meaning that those in charge are hired to make money first, and public safety issues come second (or third).

I actually have a myspace and I don't think theres anything wrong with Myspace other than dumbass older people who want to have sex with underaged kids because they think its cool.Well guess what its not cool and another part of the problem is dumb ass teenagers, or younger, chose that they want to talk to these people and show sexual pictures so its technically their fault too but no they don't get into trouble for that though right? Why can't the police tell them they cant use computers anymore or something. I'm a 15 year old girl and I know better than to do stupid stuff like that.

Well … despite the initial indications that MySpace was going to seriously address "underage protection", recent announcements have "proudly explained new and exciting site features" - none security-based or oriented towards protecting our kids.

Industry press has also been proclaiming the "sale value" of MySpace. Site advertisements are way up … and "the money is rolling in".

This will be my "last jab" at MySpace in this forum. Personally, I will advise friends, family and associates about on-line risks to their kids and provide technical expertise to help them.

"I came across a website called www.unauthorizedmyspace.com You should check it out and write a story about it. Its a bunch of normal guys who wrote a pretty detailed guide to meeting and sleeping with girls off of myspace."

www.unauthorizedmyspace.com

Is this a correct link? I'm doing a report over the Myspace issue and I wanted to use this as a source. When I typed this in, it just lead me to a google page that held a link for this exact address.

Thank You

Here is one of the biggest problems with having unlimited free access to a social netowrk such MySpace.
Teenage Boys: They get themselves a free email adress at Yahoo or whatever. They log onto MySpace and start a new account, its under the a phantom name of a minor girl. They go onto MySpace, find a girl who has all kinds of sexy pictures of herself, out with friends etc. He posts these pictures and writes up one hell of a sexual profile. Plays the part of a High School bi-sexual girl. All this in hopes to gain access to "real" female pictures. This happens on a daily basis, are you getting the picture so far?
Now, underage girls see these pictures of these other girls and see how many friends they are getting. The next thing you know, she is taking sexy pictures of herself and placing them on her new MySpace account so she can get the attention of guys, maybe girls too. The next thing that happens is the realize they have to put thier age as 18 or higher. You will see a note, usually a small note, what her real age is. Young Men, see these young women who are of legal age (at least thats what they think) here lies the first part of the evils, this guy, innocent of actually knowing her real age is communicating with this minor in a way that 2 adult should be speaking to in private. No we have an in-advertant child predator. It gets worse. These young girls now see how much attention they get. So, they take sexier pictures, make themselves even older. Now men are looking at what they think are women who are actually little girls. Now these older men have grown an attraction to this Younger looking female type. This is a viscious cycle which breeds sexual predators from the loins of teenage boys.
MySpace takes forever to act on any of the complaints I have lodged. I have seen one layout that shows the girl's age as 18, but the pictures are older than 4 years. Come on, How friggin hard is to figure out the date of a picture when the World Trade center is in the background of this topless woman. In Reality, the pictures were stolen from another person's account or this girl was taking topless pictures at 14!
I have volunteered my time to MySpace as a Community guardian, they have never responded. AOL took advantage of this community of people who would volunteer thier time a few years ago.
MySpace should be closed down until such a time that they can actively police themselves.
Facial recognition programs… oh Blah, there are already programs out there that will group together pictures via similaity that you can buy for under $50…
Oh well… just my Thoughts

It's not just myspace and similar sites that allow so much personal information to be revealed. I would be willing to bet that any person who has posted above can be found on the internet along with phone numbers, addresses, perhaps social security numbers, the list could go on…In fact, adults have more potentially sensitive information available for the public online than children by far. Where the problem lies, is that myspace and similar sites are popular among kids…and as sick as it is kids are popular among child molesters…It's probably much more common than a crime commited against a child through myspace for some adult to fall victim to some scam through their email. Does anyone here believe that Yahoo email should be punished because some criminals manipulate users of their services for some mischief??? Note: Yes, I do understand coning an adult out of money etc. isn't equal to hurting a child in any manner
