I believe Star Trek did inspire the first flip phone. Was it a Motorola? Do those old Ericsson's that were a bar with just a flipping keyboard cover count as flip phones (since they looked more like Star trek communicaters)? I'm pretty sure the first flip phones were analog, so you're stretching the Qualcomm angle, Om.

i agree... except not till i moved to the US did i figure out i was a 'trekkie' still, it be nice to do a survey of ceo fans

I wouldn't be surprised to find quite a few captains and lieutenants of the telecom industry are Trek fans / Star wars fans / Tolkien fans or any combination thereof.
