Opera is probably the best browser on mobile devices bar none. It is faster, smaller and renders very nicely on small screens. It is good news indeed that Opera has released version 8.5 beta for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs. I have installed it on the Treo 700w and so far it works very well. It didn’t import my PIE favorites which is a real pain but so far I haven’t run into any serious issues with the beta. Pages definitely look better for the most part in Opera. The beta will run on Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 and can be downloaded directly to the device for installation with a connection to the web.

  1. I doubt I will be making a purchase, but then again, after 45 days I may not want to give it up. Thanks for the find.

  2. I real like this little browser, it renders the pages beautifully, and the status bar at the bottom showing how much data downloaded is great to keep track of data charges.
This post was even made in Opera. My only grumble is it has crashed twice already and only been installed for 30mins.

  3. Sorry for the double post, darn wireless dropped out just as I was posting.

With this new Opera mobile browser and Google’s ‘Skweezer-like’ service at, http://www.google.com/gwt/n ,mobile browsing could get bigger in 2006. Now if only the UK would have affordable unlimited data plans.
