The ability to burn ISO CD images is very useful at times but something that Windows XP cannot do. ISO Recorder is a simple and free utility that adds ISO image burning support for Windows XP SP2 and later. In Vista it adds DVD ISO burning which is very cool. ISO Recorder also supports 64-bit Windows XP.

  1. I am going to ask a stupid question: what is ISO recording?

  2. Windows 2003 and Windows XP actually have a tool called cdburn.exe in their support tools. If you do not have the CD, then you can download the support tools here;
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/e/c/8ec3a7d8-05b4-440a-a71e-ca3ee25fe057/rktools.exe

    This works great, fast and easy. Just open a command prompt and type:

    cdburn d: image.iso

    (where d: is the drive of your cd burner).

    Also free!

    Furthermore: great site. I check it often. Keep up the mobility!

  3. I’ve been happy with
    CDBurnerXP
    (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/).

    Though it has XP in it’s name, it works fine on win2k,
    and it works for both CDs and DVDs with a toast-like drag-n-drop interface,
    and it’s free.
    Can make or burn ISO’s as well.
