Hard to believe but there’s more to write about Bon Jovi and digital media this year … Now the musician has tied up with neighboring Comcast for exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of the current concert tour on Comcast.net/Comcast On Demand. “We’re putting a focus on the multiscreen experience … and music has become a critical component of both video-on-demand and the Internet,” Liz Schimel, Comcast SVP-content development, told Variety.
The band has been enthusastic about deals including digital; in fact, a Bon Jovi concert was the inagural event for Network Live. Jon Bon Jovi even has the patter down: “You’re in command; we’re On Demand.”
Working like this with an artist marks a first for the cable operator, which has seen success with its music offerings on VOD and online. Comcast On Demand notched a 135-percent increase in music video orders from 14 million in February to 33 million in November. The recently launched Karaoke on Demand had more than 1.1 million views in the first two weeks. Comcast.net’s Music Channel includes video, Comcast Rhapsody Unlimited or Radio Plus and music news. Expect more original content from the cable ops side of Comcast.
