Well now I don't feel so bad. I spent a good hour sitting in Union Sq. Park trying to sign on to any one of half a dozen Wireless Networks visible there, but none of which (Google Included) actually provided external connectivity.

In the end I stolled over to the Kimpton Hotel Group Hotel Down the street and was able to log on there (I'm a regular guest so I had the SSID but it might be open now).

Would like to know when these hotspots will actually be live instead of attractive nuisances.
