IM usage up 25% in 2005

IM usage is up 19% percent year over year for 2005. One fourth of the users want to consumer entertainment content via their IM and 20% want to use IM to make phone calls to landlines and cell phones. Another 12 percent say they would be interested in an IM-based VoIP service that could replace their primary household phone line. That doesn’t seem like a lot – I guess its something to do with the quality of the phone calls. I bet PC2PC calls are on the rise, at least for short, quick bursty conversations.
