Otr_tpc_cover_art_1 OnTheRun with Tablet PCs is the podcast all about ink and slate and show #1 is the inaugural effort of James Kendrick and Marc Orchant.  This show features a special guest- the newest Tablet PC MVP Warner Crocker and covers a range of topics about the Tablet PC.  Marc fills us in on his decision to order the new Gateway Tablet PC and Warner discusses how he uses his Tablet PC in his job at the Wayside Theatre.  It is a great show and we hope you enjoy OnTheRun with Tablet PCs.

Special thanks to Tiedye Keith for the great song "Vulnerable" with vocals by Tony Lindsay of Santana.

Hello,

I have tablet PC. I want to install IIS, but during the installation process (through the “add/remove programs” in control panel), the computer asked me to insert Windows XP Professional Service pack 2 (CD-Rom).

Hmm.. I don’t have that CD-Rom. All I have when I purchase the Tablet PC is Windows Tablet PC Edition (Emergency CD-Rom).

Any idea of how to install IIS 5.1 in Tablet PC?

Thanks.

Hey guys, nice job on episode #1. I was happy to hear that Marc had a good experience in his Best Buy shopping experience. My company is a design firm that creates most of in-store customer experiences for CE retailers including Best Buy. The laptop display that Marc shopped is called the Serpintine (used for laptops, digital camera, and camcorders), and is now deployed in all Best Buy stores. A major design element of the laptop section was for shoppers to be able to interact with the form factor (using the cable for loss prevention instead of the more common bar accross the hinge). We still see tons of room for improvement in that experience, but I’m happy to hear it worked for you.

It may interest you to know that many of the touch screen based experiences and media servers in Best Buy are based on embeded linux boxes. I’ve spend many hours in Best Buy stores doing last minute tweeks to those boxes via a SSH Shell using SecureCRT and SecureFX :)

Do you plan on doing more complete show notes for these show? There are some items I would like links to. The one that sticks in my mind is the mind map done by someone making the move to paperless.

Other than that it was a great show. I look forward ot future ones.

One question… does the Tablet PC version of Windwos XP come with IIS Or at least able to be installed? I know XP Home doesn’t not allow IIS install, I need IIS so I can do my site develoipment lcoally.

Thanks,
Mike H.

I just subscribed to the feed in Doppler (my podcatcher of choice) and look forward to the discussion on choosing the right tablet, as I am looking to get one soon.

Thanks Mike. I have submitted it to iTunes but it hasn’t shown up yet. Meanwhile, in iTunes in the Podcasts page select ADVANCED/ SUBSCRIBE TO PODCAST and paste the feed above into the box. I use iTunes too and this is how I subscribe to podcasts that haven’t shown up in iTunes yet.

Once our show appears in the Podcast Directory on iTunes I will post that link in all show notes.

Mike

Did you submit a feed so that we can subscribe in iTunes? I love the show, and use this as my podcast aggregator.

Thanks for the great work!

Mike
