[...] Covad has snapped up fixed wireless company NextWeb and will use its infrastructure in five key markets - San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Orange County (CA), Santa Barbara and Las Vegas. The deal is pegged at about $24.7 million - $4 million in cash and rest in stock. That’s three times 2004 sales of $8 million. So as reported earlier, Covad has made its fixed wireless intentions pretty clear. In Unwired and Asides Posted Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 11:06 AM PT [...]

Etheric Networks (www.etheric.net) does really high speed wireless broadband across the bay area for way less than $500 a month unless you want REALLY high speed wireless.
With pending WiMAX the google idea just seems like a NoOP (unless they do WiMAX).

That said what we need is real choice.

Back in 2002 or so I was SOOOOOOOOOO happy to have Ricochet. I actually thought that it was a turning point in my life that I'd never be without the Internet again. I had been waiting for this point since I was 15.

I'm 29... it's 2005... and I still don't have it.

WTF!
