Packet 8 reveals customer emails…oops

Packet 8, in what seems to be a major snafu revealed email addresses of nearly 21,000 customers. An employee attached a spreadsheet containing customer email addresses along with its monthly email newsletter. Packet 8’s director of corporate communications Joan Citelli said, “It was a one time fluke. I don’t expect it to happen again.” Right… okay! But these are the kind of snafus which make customers fleeing. I wonder what customers think about this - if I was one, I won’t be too happy with everyone with my information.

This is one of the reasons why I still like, and use, those compuserve-like cryptic email-ids. If all they leaked was email addresses, I am not sure one or many of the 21,000 fellow-customers can cause me much grief.

The sad thing is that this is the SECOND time that Packet 8 has done this.

Packet 8 service is terrible. Although a bargain at 19.95, you get what you pay for. Disconnections, not able to fax, poor line quality. Perhaps the worst of all is when you have a problem and you will have many, you will be on hold for hours trying to get the problem fixed. Once you get the service department it appears that everything is someone elses fault.

I highly recommend that you stay away from this company!
