Buffalo Inc. of Japan is more known for its wifi devices and network-storage boxes. (LinkStation rocks!) And now it seems they might be diversifying into media center business. They have licensed technology from Mediabolic, a San Francisco-based start-up that makes middleware for connected home entertainment devices. According to this press release, Buffalo will use Mediabolic’s technology to develop and market a variety of devices. Buffalo’s first digital home product with Mediabolic software is the recently released LinkStation Home Server, a NAS device that provides centralized media storage and distribution to multiple entertainment devices on the home network and gives users access to their media collections even when their PCs are turned off. Now this is the kind of device I wouldn’t mind spending money on!
