Skype released a couple of new betas this past week that look very promising.  Skype 1.4 for Windows adds some nice new features and bug fixes:

  • Improved call quality
  • Call forwarding
  • Personalized sounds, ringtones and pictures
  • Improved search, adding contacts and finding contacts from Outlook, Outlook Express and Opera

Note that some add-on applications such as SkypeHeadset do not work with this beta.

Skype 1.2 for the Pocket PC is a long overdue upgrade for this platform and add these features:

  • Skype to Skype calls
  • SkypeOut calls
  • IM chats
  • Voicemail support

Note this must be installed via a PC.

  1. The call forwarding is a welcome addition and works VERY well. If Skype could somehow enable 911 support, I think I would ditch my landline for sure. Of course, then we would need a new federal “do-not-disturb” list for our SkypeOut numbers.

  2. SkypeHeadset has been updated to work ok with Skype 1.4
