It takes a lot to impress me when it comes podcasting these days but CBS Digital just got my attention. The network is launching CBS Netcast described as “a brand new destination for Internet users to download podcasts of CBS programs and original CBS.com programming to their computers or portable handheld devices.” The project launches next week with downloadable, same-day, full-audio episodes of soap opera “Guiding Light” — laugh but don’t underestimate soap fans and don’t forget soaps, including GL, started on radio. The first episode will post at 6 p.m. EDT Sept. 6.
The other CBS Netcast programs in the pipeline are a litle more predictable — daily podcasts of the “Big Brother” online talk show “House Calls,” the daytime online show “Soap Box” and upcoming CBS.com shows including “Survivor Live.” But the network promises to add CBS prime-time series. Not every show will translate but “60 Minutes” would be a good place to start.
