Kurt Geisel is a member of the WindowsVista Tablet PC team at Microsoft and he has published a very interesting (and welcome) post about the handwriting recognition improvements in the next version of Windows.  In the blog post “Do You Print?” Kurt discusses some common problems the current version of the Tablet Edition has dealing with handwriting such as printing instead of cursive, special characters and words not in the dictionary.  It sounds like a lot of work is going into this area with Vista and Kurt says some of the improvements are already rolled into the current beta of WV with other improvements on the way.  How many Tablet PC owners have stopped printing and switched to cursive so recognition will be better?  Maybe we can switch back to printing again!
