Vonage is announcing an enterprise class service in collaboration with TowerStream, in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston. Towerstream has about 1000 customers, mostly in retail, legal and financial sectors. From Vonage’s perspective, this is the route the company needs to take since it doesn’t own access, and it can fall prey to the whims of the incumbent carriers who have their own VoIP ambitions. Its not a slam dunk, because enterprise VoIP is a hotly contested business. I have reported in the past that Vonage has been working on such deals, including one with Gigabeam, the optical wireless operator.
