Taking a first look at Comcast’s 2Q05 earnings … Comcast added 297,000 HSD subs during 2Q05 for a total of more than 7.7 million and 18.9 percent pentration. The average monthly revenue: $43.34, up slightly from 1Q05. Comcast added 1.1 million revenue generating units in the first six months of 2005.
The company added 15,000 Digital Voice customers as the rollout continued but the additions were offset by an expected decline in circuit-switch customers. The result was a net add of just 2,000 customers in the second quarter and decline of 4 percent in revenue year over year to $170 million.
That should start to shift as the company’s VoIP effort moves into more markets. Comcast Chairman & CEO Brian Roberts: “We believe Comcast Digital Voice will be the next engine for growth and are ramping up the rollout of this service in markets like Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Boston, Hartford, Chicago and Portland. We are on track to extend our offering to 15 million homes in 20 markets by year end and expect to offer our fully-featured digital voice service across our 41 million homes by the end of 2006.”
