iTunes 4.9 weighs in at a 9.9mb update, but is currently only available on a Mac, via Software Update. There were several rumours that a big ‘partnership’ would be starting today as well, but there is no news of that just yet.

There are several new options. You can configure iTunes to check for updated ‘episodes’ of your favourite podcasts at different time intervals, tell iTunes how you would like to sync your podcasts with your iPod, and configure how long episodes are kept for. At the time of writing, no podcasts are displaying in the ‘podcasts’ section of iTunes. These will probably be activated later today.

This is a screenshot showing the new ‘podcasts’ link on the iTunes sidebar. They’ve even made a great looking new icon.

I, for one, welcome our new podcasting overlords.

  3. We hacked up our rss2.php file to better support the new tagging in the iTunes store. Noticed you’re on wordpress also and might benefit from it if you are podcasting, until something better gets worked out.

    Best,
