NYTimes.com led online newspapers in May with 11.3 million unique visitors, according to the Nielsen/NetRatings. The rest of the top five: USAToday.com, 9.2 million; WashingtonPost.com, 7.4 million; LATimes.com, 3.8 million; SFGate.com, 3.4 million. The results aren’t surprising to Gerry Davidson, senior media analyst, Nielsen/NetRatings: “… The top online newspapers tend to be located in metropolitan cities where both population and broadband access rates are higher, which correlates with greater Web page consumption.”
