C/NET is reporting that Apple will announce on Monday the severing of the long-term agreement with IBM and the move to the Intel microprocessor platform.  This rumor has been floating around for some time but the C/NET article states that Steve Jobs will make the announcement at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco.  Apple has been producing Macs based on the PowerPC processor since 1994 but plans to phase in the Intel-based devices in 2006 and 2007.  Of course, all the companies involved are declining to comment on this story.  This move could be interesting for consumers for two reasons, it may pave the way for Apple to license the Mac OS and it would make it possible for users to create dual boot computers running both the Mac OS and Windows.

This would also make an Apple Tablet very possible.  :)
