From the Houston Chronicle on May 19, on posted results of the TAKS test, a state-mandated standards test that gauges how well children have learned the course material in every subject:

Some of the biggest declines were in math and science, subjects failed by roughly a third of all 11th-graders, who must pass the TAKS before they can graduate.

From the Houston Chronicle on May 21, reporting that Dog Fancy Magazine has named the Millie Bush Dog Park (in Houston) as the "best in the nation":

"The reason Millie Bush Park came in on top is that after the writer had interviewed people about the park, her comment was that they had unparalleled amenities, including three man-made ponds — one that was designated just for small dogs. That was pretty impressive to us."

So how do we explain this to our children?
