Arianna Unplugged
Her new blog venture is getting a lot of publicity today. Good luck, but in the blog world brand names, or celebrities don’t matter. I mean do I need political advise from John Cusack for godsake? If celebrity blogging worked, then we would also be listening to Paris Hilton podcasts, and reading Bill Maher’s blog. Check, what’s next?
Great point Om. For some reason it is assumed that these celebrities all have some great [hidden] skill in news analysis. Stick to what you know. Drudge or Paul Harvey don’t star in movies for a reason.
Amen to that. it is one big ego massage and ironically, and most importantly no one in the blog world is treating them skeptically. blogging is about average people, not beautiful people who are more narccistic than even bloggers :-)
That’s one of the most boring websites I think I’ve ever visited. It’s probably worse than the TV shows these people have been on.
The key to having a successful celebrity blog is the same as having a sucessful celebrity website — let the fans take over. People would be more interested in a blog where the celebrity responded to their postings, rather than the other way around.

that is a great point. leverage the community damn it – i wish people would pay attention to that!
I’m curious to see how it all pans out. Personally, I’m a geek at heart so I remain a daily reader of Gigaom and will not switch to Arianna’s brand of fizzy soda.
But the vast majority of web surfers are not geeks. Arianna had and has a huge following that clings to her every word. Why would they not read her blog?
I’m not so sure about John Cusack. Hey, I liked High Fidelity just as much as anybody, but I don’t particularly care what he thinks about politics and social issues…
I’m willing to bet an MP3 from iTunes that Arianna’s blog is successful.
funktrunk…. thank you for saying that … well i am not sure what is going to happen with the audience, i think the blogs are still in early stages of adoption, and is still mostly purists. i am not sure about her cult of personality
