Samba_evdoKevin Tofel emailed me a link to EVDOinfo that gives the specs for a USB modem that has EVDO capability.  We talked about my desire for an EVDO modem on the last techADDICTION Show and at first blush the Samba 3G USB EVDO modem looks promising.  The Samba is not available yet but is supposed to be released later this year.  The more I look at it the more it seems this won’t work on the Verizon EVDO network in the US since it uses a SIM card to get the programming and Verizon doesn’t use them.  Too bad if true but I’ll keep an eye out for this just in case.  It would be perfect for use with the Sony U.

  1. According to the manufacturer, the SIM slot may be removed for markets that do not require it (e.g. Verizon or Sprint in the US). The RUIM or Removable Universal Identity Module (SIM) it mostly used in Asia.

Is there a posibility of upgrading the EDGE enabled Falcom Samba 75 modem to 3G. If yes, how can you do it?
