I have often talked about desperate need for a massputer – a cheap computing device that does all normal PC tasks for less than $300. Indian hardware maker HCL has introduced a PC which costs about $350 or so including the monitor. Not sure how much of the money is going to Microsoft but I am pretty sure one could shave off about $25 by using Linux. Someone sent me a link to this version of Linux, which runs off a tiny box that costs less than $200. I am sure in high volumes the prices can be crammed down lower. I think this might be closer to the concept of massputer!
