A service that allows seamless roaming between GSM and WiFi networks will be demonstrated at the 3GSM World Congress 2005 in Cannes, France next week.  The demonstration will show BridgePort Networks and PCTEL using their combined technologies to provide roaming that always connects to the highest speed and cheapest service available.  While GSM/ WiFi roaming is not as important in the US where high-speed networks like EDGE and EVDO are now readily available through unlimited monthly plans it is big news elsewhere as high-speed wireless connections often require expensive service plans.  It will be very interesting to see how seamless the roaming really is and if connections are handed off from one network to another properly.
