Zigbee_pantech_mobilephoneZigBee is a wireless standard (802.15.4) that is being developed to provide home automation functions from mobile devices.  The ZigBee Alliance is a group of interested companies who are actively developing and promoting this protocol with the ultimate goal to produce products for the consumer market.  There is a wealth of information about this budding technology on their website and if you are interested in home automation you should check it out.

Mobile phone maker Pantech & Curitel is showing a prototype cell phone that features ZigBee capabilities.  This tiny cell phone can control electrical appliances, monitor temperature and humidity and send mobile messages in case your home alarm is activated.  This looks like the first of many good products we might soon see with the ZigBee functionality.  It makes perfect sense to control your home with your cell phone and I hope this catches on.
