The recent Skulls trojan that impacted Symbian phone users exposed the potential threat to cell phones and Smartphones.  The occurrence of SMS spam and viruses is likely to become more prevalent as the number of users increases.  Trend Micro has announced an anti-virus product aimed at Symbian and Windows Mobile device owners.  Trend Micro Mobile Security (TMMS) is being marketed to Smartphone owners who are particularly open to SMS spam and trojans.  The company is offering the software free to Windows Mobile Smartphone users until June 30th of next year.

Mobile Security supports the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft™ Windows Mobile™ for Smartphone 2003
  • Symbian OS v7.0 with UIQ 2.0/2.1 User Interface (available January 2005)
  • Microsoft™ Windows Mobile™ 2003 PocketPC – Phone Edition (available January 2005)
  • Microsoft™ Windows Mobile™ 2003 Second Edition (available January 2005)
