NYTimes.com has started a bigger push into the mobile content market: two announcements came out of CTIA today:

– It has launched the wireless version of its crossword, in association with Mobliss. Priced at $3.75 for monthly access, Mobliss’s application for NYT Crossword is currently available to Verizon, Alltel, and U.S. Cellular subscribers and will be available through additional carriers in coming months.

– It will launch a word game on mobiles: it has tied up with Sony Pictures Mobile to launch “NYT Word Challenge” for mobiles. In this single-player game, users link the letter tiles on screen to form words, build bonus points using magical tiles and avoid special obstacles within the word scramble. Available for download in April, “NYT Word Challenge” will be distributed across all of Sony Pictures Mobile’s U.S. carrier partners and available on a wide variety of Java and Brew handsets.
