3G: Waiting for handsets

Both T-Mobile and Vodafone expect millions of users of their 3G service by end of this quarter, only if the handset makers get their act together and start shipping 3G phones. Renee Obermann, chief executive of T-Mobile International, speaking at the 3GSM Congress said that his company will launch 3G services in a matter of weeks. “Our networks are up and running in the U.K., Germany and Austria, but we still don’t have devices at hand. We didn’t want to launch [sooner] on the basis of a card service only.”
