Indian state telco BSNL is launching a broadband service in Bangalore. For $20 a month, users will get a 256 kbps second data connection, and a two video channels over a 3 megabits per second network. Games and voice services are part of the package. Customers will have to pay $350 for the set-top box. Financial Express reports that “A complete commercial launch is expected to take place in March. A full-fledged video-on-demand service will be launched only after a reasonable user base is achieved.” In related developments, Tata-owned VSNL has decided to enter direct-to-the-home business and will offer broadband services over the twisted copper cables.
