Like Mark Twain said, the death of fiber to the home is greatly exaggerated. I think finally this much maligned technology is coming to market. As a first step, Verizon announced that it has selected four vendors for its fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) project.ð The four vendors are Advanced Fibre Communications, Sumito Electric Lightwave, Pirelli Communications Cables and Systems, and Fiber Optic Network Solutions.ð Verizon said it plans to deploy FTTP to approximately one million homes in 2004. I am not sure if anyone has noticed but Corning is not on the list. What Gives? Read Q4 announcement from the company
