Red Herring:: Did you expect perfect handwriting recognition from the new Tablet PC laptops? Fuggetaboutit. But that doesn’t mean there’s no value in the Windows XP Tablet PC operating system from Microsoft (released in early November)–just make sure the machine running it doesn’t rely solely on pen-based handwriting recognition or even pen-based pointing and clicking. Nevertheless, using a pen to tap commands onto a display can be awkward. Although the Tablet PC has full Windows functionality, it still isn’t great at recognizing your handwriting and converting it to digital text. I agree with Dean on this – I think tablet PC is going to become nothing but a nice application for “corridor warriors.”
