OPA Forms a European Version: The Online Publishers Association, the N.Y.-based association of U.S. online publishers, has opened a European version. The association, soon to be founded, will involve the French newspapers Le Monde and Les Echos together with El Pais (Spain), The Guardian, the Financial Times (UK), Die Frankfuerter Allgemeine Zeitung, Der Spiegel (Germany), the Italian newspapers La Stampa, l?Espresso, La Repubblica and Le Temps(Switzerland).

The U.K. already has a similar association: Association of Online Publishers UK (AOP UK), which was formed only a couple of months ago. It would be interesting to see how the two associations interact, compete or co-operate.

OPA recently released a report on the paid content industry in U.S., and the European version would perhaps also follow suit, though the story talks about the ad revenues for the sites.
