Americas Network :: Widespread talk that Genuity may have to declare bankruptcy raises questions about the viability of the Internet backbone business, in which the company is a key player. The only other “pure play” in this market, PSINet, went into Chapter 11 and most of its assets were sold off to Cogent Communications, which is migrating customers off the PSINet network onto its own unconventional optical Ethernet backbone. And WorldCom, the dominant Internet backbone provider, also has filed for Chapter 11.
