EUniverse’s Paying Customer Base Increases by 42 Percent: Online content/entertainment network eUniverse (Nasdaq: EUNI) has reported a profit of $2.5 million, or 8 cents a share, on revenue of $11.4 million.

For the second consecutive quarter, the company grew its credit card paying customer base by at least 40 percent, adding nearly 100,000 new customers. As of June 30, 2002, the company had approximately 320,000 customers, up from approximately 225,000 at the end of the prior quarter.

In addition, the company plans “on launching a unique premium subscription entertainment service in August 2002 that we believe will appeal to a broad audience.” No more details were give, but note that Sony invested $17 million in eUniverse a year ago, anticipating it would need the smaller company’s help downloading music online and providing movies on demand over cable.
